David Nakles, a Professional Engineer in the State of Pennsylvania, has a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering and Engineering and Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon University and is a Principal Engineer at Groundwater and Environmental Services Inc. David has over 40 years of experience in the environmental consulting business with expertise in site investigations, risk assessments, and remediation of soil and sediment impacted with residuals generated during the extraction and processing of coal, oil, and natural gas, with a particular focus on coal gasification and/or manufactured gas plant (MGP) sites. He has implemented multiple short-term consulting projects for individual companies within the gas and electric utility industry and led several multi-year, multi-disciplinary research projects supported by trade organizations such as the Gas Research Institute (GRI), the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), the American Petroleum Institute, the American Association of Railroads, and the Petroleum Environmental Research Forum, as well as government agencies such as the Department of Energy and the Department of Defense. David has developed site characterization and remediation strategies for the cost-effective management of risks to both human health and ecological receptors. Most recently, he has been engaged in research focused on the assessment of risk and the monitoring of the geologic storage of carbon dioxide and mixed-acid gases. He has been deposed and participated in trials as an expert witness, with a focus on the MGP industry.
